“Saber que tienes posibilidades de ganar cada día es muy excitante, ¿no?” Cada tanto, los corredores gozan de un pico de forma en las grandes vueltas y eso lo coloca en posición de favoritos para cada etapa. Todos lo hemos visto: un ciclista que está siempre en fuga y luce infinitamente superior a sus compañeros, que se saben inferiores al tipo en cuestión. Y eso sucedió en el Giro de este año, con Ben O´Connor disfrutando la sensación narrada, impensada por él unos meses antes...

“Knowing you could win each day is just so bloody exciting, no?!” Every so often you get a rider who enjoys a purple patch during a grand tour, when it seems inevitable that they’ll win stages. You know what I’m talking about, a breakaway rider who is so far ahead of the others it doesn’t even seem fair. If the break stays away, they’ll take the win, no doubt about it. He was sitting on the cusp of the top 10, but disaster struck during stage 19, when he crashed out of the race. If he hadn’t, he looked like the first rider since Leo König, in 2013, to finish in the top 10 of their debut Grand Tour. That would have been a huge achievement, but getting so close and then crashing isn’t easy to deal with.

Ben O’Connor, the 22-year-old Western Australian, started 2018 with a bang, placing 7th in the GC at the Tour of the Alps, 11th in Volta Ciclista a Catalunya and 18th in Santos Tour Down Under. O’Connor has shown incredible progression, not only this season, but from the moment he started to concentrate on cycling a little over 4 years ago. The Very Beginning “I didn’t get into cycling until quite late...

The ‘factory’ continues it’s output of quality riders for cycling’s Big League. Avanti-IsoWhey, the team managed by Andrew Christie-Johnson, traditionally places a few riders per season into WorldTour squads. And 2017 will be no different. Already Chris Hamilton’s move to Giant-Alpecin has been announced but another young Australian talent is also set to ‘graduate’ at the end of the year.
