Geraint Thomas, 25, will ride his third Tour de France this year. The Welshman made his Tour debut in London 2007 with his former team Barloworld, finishing 140th. Three years later Thomas wore the white jersey as he headed the young rider classification in the opening week.

It’s arguable that but for two results, Team Sky’s arrival in the Pro Tour peloton in 2010 could have been classed as a poor one. The first was Juan Antonio Flecha’s beautiful victory in Het Nieuwsblad, while the other was Welshman Geraint Thomas’s inspired ride in the Tour de France.

He's won the junior Paris - Roubaix, a world junior track title, broken the world four kilometre pursuit record and is part of the fastest team pursuit squad in history, winning World and Olympic titles. He's ridden the Giro and the Tour - and he's still only 24.

When was the last time your computer read 63.5 kph? Down a hill? behind a bus? on the rollers? If you want to win the Olympic team pursuit title, that's the speed you need to sit at - but it's "only" a 61.7 kph average from the standing start!

A familiar face on TV during the Tour de France was Geraint Thomas from Cardiff. Racing for the Barloworld professional racing team, Geraint was the youngest rider in the Tour de France and made it all the way to Paris which was a huge achievement for the former Cardiff JIF rider.
