Alberto Contador
"Cycling today is a little crazy"

veloresults.co.uk, 29 December 2007
Its not every day you get the chance to talk to a Tour de France winner, so when I received the invitation from Team Astana’s press office, I jumped at it. It meant an early rise and a couple of hours drive, but it was well worth it to see a Pro-Tour team at work and hear what the top man had to say.

"Slipstream is the new big American team"
Like Cadel Evans, 23-year-old Trent Lowe has switched from a successful career in cross-country mountain biking and is making steady progress in professional road cycling. After two seasons with Discovery, he heads into 2008 in the Argyle of Slipstream/Chipotle

Picking up the pieces
It seemed not so long ago that Ivan Basso was firmly placed in the fast lane to cycling stardom, but the window of opportunity to bask in the glory of his Giro d'Italia success was cut short when rumours of Basso's involvement in Operación Puerto became a grim reality.

Levi Leipheimer

Back for more! (Part two)
In a general sense, racing has been good for Leipheimer, with many marquee wins and high placings on his palmares. The Tour, however, has been a love-hate relationship for him – with strong overall finishes in 2002 and 2004, but crashing out in 2003.

Back for more! (Part one)
Thirty-one of the hardest, most grueling seconds of racing in the sport is all that came between American Levi Leipheimer and the top podium spot on the Champs-Élysées in Paris last July. The closeness of that result has, however, renewed his motivation for the next Tour de France.

"I think we will make a huge impact"
Former Gent Welvegem and TdF stage winner, George Hincapie, is the only rider to have helped Lance Armstrong win all of his record seven Tour de France races between 1999 and 2005, but with Discovery ending its sponsorship at the end of 2007, 'Big George' is taking the High Road in the coming season

Mexican food and two beers
Jason McCartney has been with Team Discovery Channel for the last three seasons, but with the American outfit ending its operations at the end of 2007, the 34 year-old winner of the Villacarrillo stage in this year's Vuelta a España has found a new home with CSC, the team managed by Bjarne Riis.

Alberto Contador

Astana's First Camp!
The morning saw the team going for a four hour ride in the hills. The afternoon was supposed to give the press a chance to talk to the riders, but seeing as seven riders including Leipheimer, Horner and Klöden were not there it was to be left to “Bert” Contador to do all the talking.

Matthew White

Out with the old, in with the new
33 year-old Australian Matt White had planned on continuing with the sport from within the peloton as a rider for one more season before retiring, but on January 1 he takes on the role as one of the three sports directors for the American Slipstream squad.
