David Millar
New team, new attitude

cyclingnews.com, 15 November 2007
David Millar has a unique role in the new incarnation of the Slipstream Sports cycling team, that of rider and co-owner. When director Jonathan Vaughters announced that Millar was signing with the team, many did not realize that his role would be multi-faceted.

“Time goes by but I’m here…”
Time goes by but Gilberto Simoni never changes. He may be well over 30 but the Italian climber is still a hero for the cycling fans at the Scott stand at the Milan EICMA show.

"A tumultuous year"
Among other accolades, David Millar has won three Tour de France stages and two Vuelta a España stages. As the 2007 United Kingdom National Road Race Champion and also Time Trial Champion, he will wear the national jersey during stage races for the 2008 season with Slipstream.

Slipstreaming in National Colours
It's not often that we have cause to interview a rider so soon after the last time we spoke. For David Millar though, the last month or so have seen a great deal of activity, making it worthwhile catching up again.

"My greatest wish was being in the spotlight once again in the Tour, and I´ve made it"
On the day after his great performance in Tignes, where he ended 2nd for the stage and climbed to 3rd in the GC, Iban Mayo appeared before the press at Saunier Duval-Prodir´s headquarters in this Alpine town.

A Personal Voyage
30-year-old David Millar hasn't quite made the impact in this year's Tour that he was hoping for. Down on form in the Prologue, he provided fans and spectators some consolation in stage 1 by leading a breakaway and taking the Polka Dot jersey.

Millar time again?
Having returned to the sport last year and proved that he can, once more, perform to a similar level as before, David Millar is now rightly regarded as one of a few red-hot favourites for Saturday's Tour de France prologue in London.

Happy at Saunier Duval
VeloResults got an opportunity to chat with Iban at the Saunier Duval team launch in Estepona in January this year. It's interesting to publish it now, on the eve of the Tour after Iban won a stage of the Giro.

From Then To Now
At the Saunier Duval-Prodir team camp in January, we talked with a lot of the team and riders. It’s always interesting to get the look back at how various riders anticipated the coming season. In this ‘never before published’ interview, Gilberto looks ahead to the Giro…

David de la Fuente

"I was the happiest guy in the world"
For those who didn't know him before last year's Tour de France, David de la Fuente was just another Spanish journeyman who happily did the unglamorous work of a domestique with the occasional breakaway thrown in for good measure.

Riccardo Riccò

Too much like Pantani?
Danilo Di Luca may very well be on his way to winning his first Giro d'Italia at age 31, but Italy has turned its attention to a new hero in the person of Riccardo Riccò. The 'cobra', as he is called, seems to vindicate the heritage of Marco Pantani.

Iban Mayo

"Everything has changed"
Basque climbing sensation Iban Mayo once had the cycling world on edge. With his dramatic stage victory at Alpe d'Huez in the 2003 Tour de France and his impressive victory at Dauphiné Libéré in 2004, Mayo was hyped as potential candidate to dethrone Lance Armstrong at the Tour.

"The Spanish are much more laid-back"
He admitted to doping and was booted for 2 years. His return was tentative, but his natural talent never in doubt. David Millar's career has been up, very down, and after a humbling return at Le Tour he stepped up to a Vuelta TT win.

Francisco Ventoso

"Not as good as Milram I’m afraid!"
They’ve got the big-time GC guys, the mountain goats and the chrono-men; yeah, yeah – but have they got a sprinter? He’s tall, good looking, has the bracelets, the big watch, the stubble, doesn’t like hills and last year he cracked the big league with a Vuelta stage win; meet Francisco Jose Ventoso

Been there, done that !
Saunier Duval is a pretty cosmo team with nine nations represented, nothing unusual about that these days - but what's a Dutchman doing here? Shouldn't he be with Rabobank?
