From soccer to cycling
Within a year of starting her cycling career, former Vanderbilt University soccer star Katharine Carroll had signed a professional contract. The 26-year-old from Sausalito, California won the first National Racing Calendar (NRC) event of her career in April at Athens, Georgia.

Alison Powers found success quickly on the bike. She quit skiing in 2004, was mountain biking in 2005, and by 2006 she'd signed with Rio Grande Sports Garage in Boulder, Colo. In 2007, she competed in her first world cup, the women's Giro d'Italia, and at the world championships in Stuttgart.
