2008 Irish road race champion Daniel Martin had a strong second season as a professional, third in the Tour of the Mediterranean, second on a stage and second overall in the Volta a Catalunya, fifth in the GP Ouest France in Plouay and, on Sunday, an excellent eighth in the Tour of Lombardy.

Roche talks end of season, Lombardy
Ag2r La Mondiale’s Nicolas Roche will today bring his season to an end in the Giro di Lombardia in Italy. The 25 year old has by his own admission been a little-off form in recent weeks but he registered a good result in the 2.HC Giro del Piemonte on Thursday.

Toute l’Irlande attend le nouveau Stephen Roche ou Sean Kelly. Le jeune Daniel Martin n’a sans doute pas les épaules de ces deux champions de légende mais pourrait bien un jour se mêler aux prétendants à la victoire sur le Tour de France.

Fils de Stephen, grand champion des années 80, l'Irlandais d'AG2R qu'il a rejoint cet hiver et 6e hier à Dijon, tente comme d'autres avant lui de se faire un prénom dans les pelotons. Il s'est confié la semaine dernière au Corbier où la formation savoyarde a préparé le Critérium.

A lot of changes for one winter

Nella nostra trasferta francese al Tour Méditerranéen l'avevamo puntato subito, avendo in mente la bella stagione passata e il tentativo potente (seppure un po' tatticamente scriteriato) durante i Campionati del Mondo Under 23 di Varese 2008.
