Japanese riders have competed in the Giro d'Italia and the Tour de France before but none had started the Vuelta a España until Yukihiro Doi lined up on the beach of Benidorm for the inaugural team time trial of the 66th edition that Skil-Shimano successfully completed in seventh place.
